The pig farming of our country is concentrated for about 80% of production in the Po Valley where it feeds some of the main industries of our country dedicated to slaughtering and processing into salami of recognized world quality, as evidenced by the numerous PDOs and the related Consortia of protection. However, despite these awards relating to the quality of production mainly due to the quality of the raw material and the efforts of breeders for their production, pig farming in the Po river area is experiencing difficult situations. Pig farmers have long been committed to improving farm structures and modifying breeding techniques to ensure greater respect for the environment and animal welfare. The reduction in the use of antibiotics and the improvements in business management certified by public structures through the adoption of the Classyfarm method are not adequately reflected in the prices recognized by the Cun.
