Event Details

The Italian Society of Veterinary Livestock Production has been promoting for years in Cremona a moment of in-depth study and training for professionals, putting the spotlight on the most topical issues and presenting the most innovative aspects of the technical-scientific debate.

With the entry into force of Regulation 2016/429, the animal health regulations are being fundamentally revamped with the aim of preventing and controlling animal diseases that can be transmitted to other animals or humans in the perspective of “ONE HEALTH.” The role of the farm veterinarian is central to the Animal Health Strategy: without a doubt, he is the most qualified technical figure interfacing with the farmer and a link between the farm and the official health authority. With a view to prevention, the approach toward the most common cattle-breeding diseases including IBR and BVD is reviewed, where much can still be done to implement prevention and biosecurity. The focus of the first part of the morning update will be to review what has been done so far for these two important diseases, and assess the most up-to-date, large-scale epidemiological situation. The update on infectious diseases of cattle will continue in the morning with an uncommon but devastating issue should it occur on the farm: Clostridium botulinum. A very recent case report will allow us to open the discussion on the need to establish an organized and effective mechanism to be able to quickly respond to an extremely ruinous emergency. In the afternoon, Salmonellosis infections in cattle breeding will be addressed instead: this is a relevant issue because of the possible sanitary and economic repercussions as well as the public health implications resulting from the zoonotic nature of the infection. In order to limit the spread of infection intra- and inter-breeding and the possibility of transmission to humans there remains for this disease, after the repeal of the Veterinary Police Regulations and the entry into force of 136/2022, the reporting requirement as per Legislative Decree 191/2006 implementing the Zoonosis Directive 99/2003 and for all salmonellae a mandatory “surveillance”. Hence, the need to train and inform colleagues who are dealing with this disease on a daily basis on the farm and to facilitate them in the preparation of the Health Management Plan that is essential for the proper management of the outbreak of infection
